as mentioned, there have been some new songs being played on this run of shows, so of course the guys have been 'watching the tape' so to speak. in other words, they'll go on youtube and see how they went over. technology. amazing. and hey, all the new songs have been going over really well, so that's good. rumors of a 3rd new one coming tonight ('bullet soul').
so literally in the backyard of our venue tonight is an amish farm, complete with amazing little simple machines and goats and chickens and all sorts of interesting stuff. jon posed for a picture. ha.
back at the venue there was soundcheck, dinner, the show, friends of the foot, watching this video on youtube and wishing we could do that, aftershow food, bus, hotel, sleep.
all in all it was a fun little trip complete with festivals, small rock clubs, and big theatres. on to the bro-am week craziness! |

well, the operative word for today's show is MUD. it is everywhere. being a festival out in the middle of a farm lends itself to having a lot of dirt around, so after a few early morning showers, mud.
the guys did your typical festival Q+A sessions and interviews, which are always fun. there was a moment when some of us were in catering and a giant storm started to roll over, and we all made a mad dash for the safe haven of the bus. after a little while, the storm passed and the night turned out to be pretty gorgeous.
the show tonight was pretty awesome. the guys played the new song 'mess of me' again and it sounded even better than last night's version. probably the most memorable moment of the night was during the very last chorus of their very last song, right before jon started to sing 'i dare you to move', the weather came back in a big way and just started dumping rain on the crowd. jon went out in the middle of the rain with everyone else and finished out the song there. really great show.
on to canada! |

check, check, 1, 2. is this thing on? it's a bit dusty, but good to be back.
today we are up in the fingernail portion of the glove-looking state of michigan. i promise, look at the state, and we're up way north. it's a new festival called the big ticket festival, and it seems to be going pretty well so far, especially for the first day of it ever.
one of the stagehands saw us eyeing his sweet ride and let us take it for a spin around the parking lot. we all took turns pretending we were going to jump stuff like buses and maybe even the stage, but 1) this thing won't go fast enough, and 2) we could die.
after some dinner and a complete raid of the ice cream freezer in catering, the guys took the stage and had a really fun show. the big highlight for everyone tonight was the unveiling of the new song 'mess of me'. it was the first time they ever played it live, and it sounded awesome. drew just rips into the intro. so much fun.
one festival down, one to go, then on to canada, eh. don't forget to follow @switchfoot on twitter if you haven't yet. the guys post stuff all day. good times. - ab. |

| Tamarindo, Costa Rica |

Some things happened. the short of it is, Tim almost got arrested for carrying the wrong bag, which happened to be my bag, which also happened to have been switched with another just like it.
tim, jon and chad all flew out early from Guatemala City in hopes of getting waves in the afternoon at Tamarindo. When Tim arrived at customs in San Jose, Costa Rica he was carrying my bag, or atleast, what he thought was my bag. confidently, he nodded to the Costa Rican Customs Officer in response to, "is this your bag?" A sentence, i'm sure, that he'd like to retract at this juncture. Upon confirmation, they unzipped the beast to find some interesting items within. you know, A cake?! Some beans. some flour, which alerted a crew over to make sure it was just flour and not some powdered substance ... and a some perscription pills, all of which that where the property of someone else... The scene is mayhem. Here's the bag, gutted and bulging with the most random assortment of items, all peculiar and all partially, if not fully illegal, and here's Tim, right in the eye of the storm, trying to back his way out of it.
Now, we are laughing about it. All is well. The sun is setting over the waves as they fall onto the beach in Tamarindo and people are refereing to me as "the baker." I do not normally bring cakes with me when i travel, but i might start.
Costa Rica offered us a 6 hour drive through the jungled mountains, some amazing surf, refined coffee and the craziest plane ride ever onto the most desolate runway ever. (I shouldn't say desolate, there was a cow). A bull fight, as in actual bulls fighting, the way dogs do and lots of frolicking Iguanas. More surf was had, and pictures gathered.
Peace and love. Bobby the baker aka, "cake and beans" |

well hello daily footees. the guys are up here in my neck of the woods working on new songs. they have been hashing and cutting and chopping. no song is safe. frontrunners are now on the backburner. new songs are taking the lead as favorites. it's pretty crazy.
in case any of that makes you nervous, just know that new switchfoot music is being played in the background of me typing this, and it is good.
cheers.

Ever since i saw the movie 'Body Guard," i thought it'd be cool to have a crew following you around packing heat and talking in code through ear pieces and hand helds. The moment we left the airport, we were apart of an entourage. Big dudes, with "security options." So too began the autographs and pictures. betta dig deep in your coat pocket for that travel size Spanish Dictionary, you're gonna need it!
Flying makes one famished and Tacointendo makes people content, thus "the happy taco." Picture anything you want on a tray, carne asada, pollo asada (i think), chorizo.... and much more all holding hands with salsa verdes, guacamole and cotija cheese. In come the Mariachis and Chad starts singing! Tacos and Verbrato were flying all over the place.
The show day was filled with a meal every 2 hours and some of warmest smiles. Friendly, friendly people. There was a press conference in a restaurant that also doubled as an aquarium. Let me foreshadow...you can scuba with the sharks, no joke...that outta suffice until a podcast can explain much further!
This was a pretty epic show. The crowd was so loud that i could hear them outside of the venue, over the thumping bass tones. Every song had a heartfelt 3500 person chorus.
IJM made a presence tonight next to the SFOOT merch booth and it was really cool to get caught up with what's happening in terms of social reform in Guatemala.
Volcanoes' were in bloom and their smoke trailed off from the cones into the clouds. Pretty amazing cite from a hotel room. Guatemala te ama.

| San Antonio, Texas. |

The guys crunched a red eye the night prior so they could take part in the SD HOB benefit for the lead singer of Unwritten Law who recently lost his house to a fire. It sounded like a community afair with Mraz and others showing to offer support. go freakin' san diego!
We met up on 2/11 at the San Antonio Rodeo. Stomping bulls, wranglers and roughnecks! All an amazing prelude to a Switchfoot show. I laughed hard tonight. The stage was on orbit, spinning about like carousel. The first seats were at least 50 yards away, so miggs, beaty and i (while stationary) enjoyed front row seats every time the front of stage came around to face us. My feet awkwardly feel into the dirt print of horses hooves and bull tracks, where the rodeo had just tempered 30 minutes before.
Jon said that he wanted to bridge the gap between the arena and the rotating stage...so he did his fare share of diving and dirt stomping to get into seats. You'd expect nothing less, right? It was a toe-tappin', knee slappin' good time and we wish all the cowboys good tidings, as they sacrificed their bodies to the great state of texas.
thanks Tay Tay for the shots.

hey friends. sorry for the delay on this.
enjoy this guest entry from Alicia. she rocked the Florida show, on all levels. and she took all the pic's.
peace. bobby the baker
The Foot and company flew into Florida on a red eye flight but that had no reflection on their performance. Tonight’s show was pretty ace; it even involved a loud pig race. The Foot’s first show of two thousand and nine was hosted at a fair. Just imagine the noises of those outrageously priced games to “win” cheap stuffed animals, the lights from all the rides, the sweet smell of funnel cakes, deep fried snickers, and salty hot dogs, the crazy clowns marching on stilts, then on top of all that Switchfoot rockin’ out on a stage; it’s almost as if you were there. After Bobby the B Hive gave fellow merch volunteer, Nicole, and me the run down of what we were to do, the doors opened and the anticipation of the gang playing rose as the fans trickled in. My favorites on the set list included Lonely Nation, Learning to Breathe, and This is Your Life mixed with I Won’t Back Down by Tom Petty. But the final encore of Your Love is Strong leading into Dare You to Move left everyone with a lighthearted spirit. The set list looked a little something like this: Oh! Gravity Stars Gone mash-up This Is Your Life /I Won't Back Down (Tom Petty cover) This Is Home Learning To Breathe Dirty Second Hands American Dream We Are One Tonight/The Shadow Proves the Sunshine Lonely Nation On Fire Awakening Meant to Live Encore: Your Love is Strong Dare You To Move Now, I don’t want to fool no one to think that I’m something, I know I’m not Andy Barron; if we all were, there’d be too many talented creative people out there with a knack for photography. I’m just a Ruth loving, Switchfoot high-fiving, merch selling kind of girl with a hankering for photography. There’s nothing left for us to talk about. Thanks y’all, Ali-C-ia |
